Fans of sports betting in the Hoosier State have reason to celebrate. On May 8 2019, Governor Eric Holcomb put his signature on H1015. This piece of legislation allows Indiana residents of legal age to wager on sporting events at a live sportsbook or online with a mobile betting app.
The very first sports bets in Indiana were made by Governor Holcomb on September 1, 2019. He lost all three wagers, two of which were future propositions on the championship prospects of the Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts.
In October of 2019, BetRivers and DraftKings became the first providers to offer online sports betting apps in Indiana. They were joined a short time later by FanDuel. Other online sportsbooks have since appeared.
Any adult in Indiana that is over the age of 21 can legally make sports bets with a live sportsbook or an online app. The Indiana Gaming Commission is in charge of all licensing for online sportsbooks. Companies that are granted a license for offering sports betting are required to satisfy licensing requirements, and they are also subject to periodic audits by the IGC to insure that betting is being conducted fairly.
There are many choices available for the Indiana sports bettor. Bets can be made on single games, and players are also permitted to bet on parlays. Both straight line and money line wagers are available to the player. All professional and collegiate sports can be wagered on. Bets on high school sporting events are not allowed. The prohibition also applies to all amateur sporting events.
