This ranking only list online sports betting websites authorized in the state of Mississippi.

In May of 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the nation's ban on sports betting. Just prior to that happening, legislators in Mississippi also overturned the state's ban on sports betting.

Over the next two years, there were several attempts by the Mississippi legislature to get sports betting legislation passed for the benefit of the state's residents. It was a struggle to get anything passed because of the large number of retail casinos operating in the state, and efforts by religious communities. Finally, a bill was passed in early to mid-2021.

Under the provisions of the law, retail sports betting is allowed within the walls of the aforementioned 20+ retail casinos. In fact, online wagering is also permitted, but only if the sports bettor is actually standing in a retail casino. That means residents are not yet allowed to wager on sports from home.

To date, BetMGM is the only significant bookmaker in the state. They have partnered with several of the state's retail casinos. With that said, other top U.S. bookmakers will likely be joining the fray before the end of the year. The potential list includes names like Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, Fanduel, and Penn National.

There is hope that online sports betting legislation will get its due sometime in 2022. There are currently no active bills on the docket, but residents are making it known they want access to sports betting no matter where they might be at any time.
