After more than 4 years since the U.S. Supreme Court said no to the country's ban on legal sports wagering, the U.S. sports betting community is still growing by leaps and bounds. This week, leading online sports betting operators BetMGM and Fanduel are in the news yet again. Let's take a look at what two of America's top online sports betting operators have in the works.
It's time for U.S. gambling operators to realize that there is an ongoing shift within the U.S. gambling community. With the proliferation of online gambling, younger gamblers are flocking to the internet to bet on sports and online casino games of chance.
Taking queues from other successful online gambling operators like Penn Entertainment, BetMGM management is looking to embrace a younger customer base. They are looking to do that by taking to social media where they can start building relationships with young adults of means who have not yet been hit by the online gambling bug.
This move to the internet to draw younger gamblers begs a very important question. How should BetMGM go about doing this? The answer would seem to be by building relationships with social media influences.
Social media influencers are social media celebrities who maintain a significant following. Based on the size of the follower base, influencers can move markets with their recommendations. BetMGM has already identified an influencer with whom they would like to partner. That influencer is "Almost Friday."
Almost Friday has a following of over 7,000,000 regular viewers. Largely focused on comedy and satirical content, the social media influencer has built a base of young people who tend to be fanatical about sports. Sports fans are easily converted to sports bettors under the right circumstances. BetMGM is hoping the Almost Friday can help them create the right circumstances.
Effective September 1, 2022, the state of Kansas joined the ranks of the states where residents can freely bet on sports through mobile sports betting apps and or retail outlets.
Fanduel has announced they are officially one of the six mobile sports betting operators that opened their betting windows when the bell sounded on September 1st. They were enabled to join the Kansas sports betting community through the operator's partnership with the Kansas Star Casino.
By aligning themselves with the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, Fanduel is also able to offer retail sports betting options in one of Kansas' newest retail sports betting locations. To commemorate the opening of a temporary sportsbook, Fanduel will be hosting a grand opening ceremony to be held on Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. The highly anticipated event will see former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson on hand for a meet and greet with Kansas sports bettors.
Among the other U.S. mobile sports betting operators that started taking bets on September 1 were the likes of Barstool Sportsbook and PointsBet Sportsbook.
