Louisiana has become the most recent state to introduce legalized online sports betting. Six sportsbooks in the Pelican state went live on Friday, January 28, 2022. Another round of licensees is expected to join them soon.
Among the first online sportsbooks to take wagers were Caesars and BetMGM, two big players in the industry. BetRivers and Barstool Sportsbook joined Fan Duel and Draft Kings to round out the sites which provide online betting for professional and collegiate sporting events.
Sports betting online is legal for all residents of Louisiana that are 21 years of age or older. It was approved in 2021 by voters on a parish-by-parish basis. A few parishes chose to decline online sports betting. This is what accounted for the hold up in bringing the platforms online. The state regulatory agency was tasked with developing gatekeeping software that would prohibit individuals located in certain parts of the state from placing wagers.
Each online sportsbook is partnered with one of the live casinos in the state. Bettors can find physical sportsbooks in these locations.
The first sportsbooks went live just in time to allow bettors from Louisiana a chance to wager on the AFC Championship game. The game featured Joe Burrow, a LSU standout and Louisiana favorite, leading the Cincinnati Bengals to victory and a trip to the Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams.
Those who pre-registered with Caesars were able to claim $300 in free bonus bets on Friday as well as a matching deposit bonus of $3,000. All of the sportsbooks have continued to offer bonuses to new players from Louisiana.
If you live in Louisiana and like to bet sports, now is the time to make your play. Join your favorite online sportsbook today and you could receive thousands of dollars in free cash to use for betting. Parlays, spreads, teasers, and more are among the early favorites for Louisiana sports bettors.
Caesars is also offering its unique Super Boosts which allow bettors to boost the payoffs on certain wagers. You can find out all of the details when you visit the Caesars Sportsbook website.
