It's not a name with which many American sports bettors are familiar. By all appearances, it might be time for the U.S. sports betting community to start taking a serious look at ClutchBet. This week, ClutchBet launched its betting services in a robust Louisiana sports betting market. In doing so, the operator became the 9th mobile bookmaker operating in Cajun country.
Louisiana marks the third state in which ClutchBet has been able to successfully secure a license and launch its betting platform. They successfully launched in Iowa in 2022 and followed that up with a launch in Colorado in the spring of 2023. When an operator finds itself operating in more than a couple of states, that represents the operator's intention of maintaining a presence in the U.S. for years to come.
In a press release from parent company BlueBet, CEO Bill Richmond had this to say about the company's expansion strategy in the U.S. market:
“Going live in Louisiana, our third US state, caps off another strong 12 months for BlueBet, as we execute our ‘Capital Lite’ US market entry. As we land and expand in each new US state, we continue to refine and enhance our approach, which is delivering faster growth and making us even more capital efficient.”
ClutchBet is a relatively new entrant into the international sports betting market. The brand is owned and operated by the Australian-based BlueBet, a company that opened for business in 2015. With current sports betting "handle" running at about $9 million a quarter, it's clearly a small operator offering horse racing and sports betting services in parts of Europe and of course, the U.S. While the handle is small, the recent year-over-year numbers indicate a healthy growth pattern.
It's noteworthy that the operator intends to get involved in all aspects of the U.S. sports betting market. In Colorado, they have partnered with both the Colorado Switchbacks (United Soccer League) and the Colorado Eagles (American Hockey League). They have also secured a branding sponsorship deal with xTream Arena, home of the Iowa Hawkeyes volleyball teams.
With nine (9) mobile sports bettors operating in Louisiana, ClutchBet is aware they will be facing stiff competition for new customers. With that in mind, the operator seems intent on offering products that are directly targeted toward Louisiana sports bettors.
It starts with a Welcome Bonus offer that includes up to $1,000 in bonus bets with the actual amount based on each customer's first bet up to as much as $200. The bonus bets will be issued within 24 hours after the qualifying bets have been recorded.
The operator also intends to make sure its Louisiana customers will get extra value from a blog that will be written about Louisiana sports teams. That will go hand-in-hand with a special 2024 bonus offer that will provide Louisiana bettors with +200 money line spreads when they wager on the New Orleans Saints (NFL) or the New Orleans Pelicans (NBA).
