Betting 2025 MLB Futures

The beginning of spring signals the beginning of the MLB regular season. Indeed, baseball fans and bettors are ready to return to action after a long and eventful winter. While March 27, 2025, stands as MLB's official opening day, the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers are already off to a hot 2-0 start. What Are Future Odds Props Bets?

A future odds prop bet is a wager on something that will be decided in the future. These are common betting options that are typically made available at the start of every major sports league season.

For the MLB, futures odds prop bets will focus on team and individual accomplishments. The most popular team-related future odds prop bets are which team will win their League championships (American League (AL) and National League (NL)) and, subsequently, the World Series. Another common option is how many wins each team will accumulate during the regular season (not listed below but available at some online sportsbooks).

Player-related future odds prop bets will largely focus on which position player will hit the most home runs or which pitcher will win the Cy Young Award.

Of course, the odds for any of these events will be dictated by the likelihood of an outcome. The defending World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers are again favored to win the 2025 World Series. Conversely, the rebuilding Chicago White Sox and Florida Marlins aren't given much chance at all.

At the player level, Shohei Otani and Aaron Judge are expected to fight it out for the home run title, while Takik Skubal (AL) and Paul Skenes (NL) are expected to make a run at the Cy Young Award in their respective leagues.

Our Recommendations

If you are new to the MLB baseball betting community, you might be a little leery about placing future odds prop bets. With that said, why not invest a few dollars to give you something to root for throughout the entire season?

We would not recommend you simply pick your favorite team or player unless you feel they have a legitimate chance at success. Instead, let us make a few recommendations that might be worthy of your consideration.

1. There is no value in betting on the Dodgers to win the World Series. The Yankees took a major hit when All-Star pitcher Gerrit Cole went down for the season with an elbow injury. The young upstart Baltimore Orioles are loaded on offense with a pitching staff that should be competitive, not to mention a farm system that is still loaded. at +1800, the Orioles represent real wagering value.

It wouldn't be crazy to also back the Orioles to win the AL title at +600.

2. In our opinion, the Los Angeles Dodgers are underlaid at +140 to win the NL title. Sure, the team is loaded in almost every aspect of the game. However, +140 is an incredibly low number when the injury bug could bite a major player at any time. We like the Atlanta Braves at +475. With Ronald Acuna returning after a serious leg injury, this team is very close in talent to what the Dodgers are offering. Close enough to give the +475.

3. For the AL Cy Young Award title, we like the favorite Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers for two reasons. First, his stuff is pure dynamite. He is coming off an incredible 2024, where he proved to be nearly unhittable. Entering his prime, he could be even better in 2025.

Second, the rest of the potential Cy Young field looks a little bit weak. Without much competition standing in his way, it would seem that Skubal has a clear path to the Cy Young award, barring an injury.
