After two failed attempts, it didn't look like the residents of Vermont was going to have much of a chance to wager on sports anytime soon in the future. With an eye on neighboring states like Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York either already accepting wagers or on the verge of doing so, several State Senators are interested in taking another look at the possibility of Vermont joining the party.
This past week, a small group of State Senators led by Sen. Dick Sears stepped forward and filed bill S 77. If the bill were to ever be passed, it would legalize Vermont sports betting through the lottery with additional authorization for up to six mobile sports betting sites.
Admittedly, the bill has a long way to go. In the early stages, the bill consists of only 15 pages, which don't provide many details. However, there is pressure being brought to bear by Vermont sports bettors who have made clear they have a willingness to cross borders to bet on sports. Maybe the state legislature sees they are missing out on tax revenue.
