The Supreme Court of the United States is right on the edge of making a massive decision related to online gambling, particularly gambling on sports. They will determine for the entire nation if sports betting will become a legal activity or not.
The decision is expected to relate to the case brought before the court by the state of New Jersey. Most expect that if the court is to legalize sports betting, then they would only do so on a state level. In other words, the court would say that the activity is legal and then leave it up to the states to determine how they will regulate it.
Plenty of states are chomping at the bit to get their hands on some tax revenue from legal gambling. However, some still stand strong against the activity for a number of different reasons. You have a state like Nevada for example that is not all that interested in seeing the legalization of gambling because they fear that this will bite into their revenues. Then you have some states that are not eager to see gambling legalized due to moral objections that they might have to it.
At the end of the day, the law is the law. The Supreme Court does seem very likely to side with those who would like to see this activity legalized. It would not be unheard of that they could kick the case back down to a lower court, but most think that they are going to produce a definitive answer one way or the other.
Plenty of parties are keeping an eye on this decision. They know that the way that the court decides to take this one could be determinant of how many decisions related to legal online gambling go in the future. Everyone is holding their breath at this moment.
The Court releases its decisions on a scheduled basis. We know for a fact that the latest that we will get word on this one would be in late June, but it may come to pass much more quickly than that. We will all just have to wait and see.
