The fact is the Alabama state legislature has been very slow to act on sports betting and online casino initiatives. This should not come as a surprise given how conservative the state has been towards all forms of gambling over the years.
Alabama Sen. Greg Albritton has certainly shown himself to be a big backer of bringing certain forms of gambling to the residents of Alabama. In an interview with Maddie Biertempfel of WHN, Albritton stated:
“I’m doing all that I know to do. I’m still trying to work with House members and reach out to the governor’s office to find out where we are and to draw a consensus."
With the next legislative session not scheduled until March of 2023, he will be working behind the scenes to create support for a lottery, sports betting, and casino gambling, both retail and online.
So far, he has not been able to get a viable bill to the floor of the House of Representatives. He hopes to get something going in March of next year with the goal of putting a gambling initiative in front of Alabama voters by the time the 2024 election cycle rolls around.
