The Martingale Online Casino Game Betting Strategy

RouletteEver since the advent of casino games of chance like blackjack, baccarat, and roulette, gamblers have been trying to develop betting systems that will help them "beat the house." Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a system that will help gamblers (retail and online) beat the house. No matter what a retail or online casino gambler does, the house's advantage will always remain the same. Why? Statistics don't lie or change, and every casino game is built around statistical probabilities that always favor the house or casino.

Before you get discouraged, there is some good news. You see, there are a few betting strategies that will help you better manage your gambling bankroll. With better bankroll management, you can stay in your game of choice longer until fate/luck delivers a winning streak. After all, that's how real winners are created.

The Martingale Online Casino Game Betting Strategy

A favorite betting strategy among online casino gamblers is the Martingal Betting System. The system was created in the 1900s based on Paul Levy's probability theory (1934).

As a betting system, the Martingale betting system is not a tool that increases the gambler's probability of beating the house. It's a "doubling-up" betting system that allows them to manage their bankroll with more longevity in mind.

To be clear, this system is only viable if the online gambler is playing a game of chance that includes betting options with odds of even money or 50/50. Qualifying online casino games would include blackjack, baccarat, and roulette. In all honesty, this system is most often used by roulette players for reasons that will become clear in the next section. With that said, the system can also be deployed when playing blackjack or baccarat where the possible outcomes are win the hand or lose the hand.

For this particular writing, the Martingale system will be described with roulette used as the online casino game of chance.

When the Martingale Betting Strategy Should be Used on Roulette

If you want to use this system the way it's intended, you will have to be disciplined. The effectiveness of this "money management" system will diminish if not properly used. That means following the prescribed betting sequence to a TEE!

As indicated above, this system only works if online gamblers are placing wagers that have winning probabilities of even money or 50/50. On the online roulette table, the qualifying wagering options would be red/black, even/odd, or the first 18 numbers (1-18)/2nd 18 numbers (19-36).

Note: The mistake that even experienced gamblers will make when placing wagers with 50/50 odds is that one outcome will influence the next outcome. For instance, the ball lands in red the first time means it's more likely the ball will land in black the next time. NOT True, it's a probability fallacy. The reality is the probability of red or black hitting on every spin of the wheel will always be 50/50, an independent and random outcome.

How the Martingale Betting Strategy Works

The best way to describe how the Martingale betting system works is to use a real example. We are going to assume you have walked up to the roulette table with a starting bankroll of $200. To keep things simple, you have decided that red is your favorite color and each wager you place will be on red. You have further decided that your starting betting increment will be $1 with the goal of winning a net $1 from each sequence. A betting sequence runs until a win hits, then a new sequence starts.

Keep in mind this system was developed as a progressive or doubling-up betting scheme. That means you will always double up on your prior bet each time the prior bet loses. Let's lay out the possible betting sequences for a few spins at a time.

- First bet of the sequence = $1. If that bet wins, you collect $2 and start a new sequence with another bet that = $1. You now have a net profit of $1 ($1 wagered, $1 won). If the first bet of the sequence loses, the next bet or second bet of the sequence = $2.

- If the second bet of the sequence wins, you collect $4 and start a new sequence with another bet that = $1. You now have a net profit of $1 ($3 wagered, $4 won). If the second bet of the sequence loses, the next bet or third bet of the sequence = $4. Note the doubling up on each successive bet of a sequence.

- If the third bet of the sequence wins, you collect $8 and start a new sequence with another bet that = $1. You now have a net profit of $1 ($7 wagered, $8 won). If the third bet of the sequence loses, the next bet or fourth bet of the sequence = $8.

The goal of this strategy is to pick up $1 of winnings from each sequence. The hope is your bankroll will hold up long enough through each sequence to earn the $1 from the sequence for as long as possible. That begs the question, "How long will your bankroll hold up?"

Assuming you will stop and return another day once your bankroll is shot, here are how many losing sequences you can endure before that happens. Remember, your starting bankroll is $200.

Bet one ($1) of the sequence loses = minus $1
Bet two ($2) of the sequence loses = minus $3
Bet three ($4) of the sequence loses = minus $7
Bet four ($8) of the sequence loses = minus $15
Bet five ($16) of the sequence loses = minus $31
Bet six ($32) of the sequence loses = minus $63
Bet seven ($64) of the sequence loses = minus $127
Bet eight ($128) of the sequence loses = minus $255 OPPS!

Bet eight at $128 would exceed the amount of your bankroll that remains. Therefore, you can't place the bet. Your bankroll is $73, and it's time to go home or play another game of chance.

At this point, you might be wondering what are the odds of losing seven spins in a row. Here's the math: .5 x .5 x .5 x .5 x .5 x .5 x .5 = .78%. With odds of less than 1% that you will lose seven spins in a row, you might assume there is very little chance you won't make money each time you play roulette. Hmmm, caution is warranted.

It's crazy how probabilities never work out quite as you might expect. You see, most probabilities are determined based on a large population of events. Over a short population of events, in this case, 7 spins, anything can happen. That's why millions of online gamblers have tried to win money with the Martingale Betting System and millions have failed.

The best way to win money with the Martingale Betting System is to get lucky, hit a bunch of sequences in a row, and be willing to walk away with a reasonable win.

Summary: As an online casino gambler, there is some point at which you will need to accept that the house always wins. You can't do much about it. That's why online gambling should always be viewed as nothing more than a fun and exciting form of online adult entertainment.

Your bankroll should be the discretionary money you can afford to lose after your bills are paid and some savings have been set aside. Don't gamble to make money. Instead, gamble to have fun, and if the powers-to-be strike you with a bit of luck, count your blessings and buy the family a steak dinner.
