California Online Poker

California is a state with complex online gambling rules. For years the state has embraced live poker rooms and tribal casinos. It has also allowed its residents to explore offshore online casinos. 2021 could be the year that California fully embraces online gambling in many forms.

There is no prohibition that currently exists for individuals in California when it comes to online gambling. A player can create an account and wager at an online casino that is based in another country. Many offshore online casinos are happy to welcome California players, and they will even provide a bonus to those who create a new account.

The California state legislature has signaled that it may be willing to consider bills for online gambling, sports betting, and more. Online poker could also make an appearance soon. The state stands to benefit in a big way if online casinos and sportsbooks are legalized.

The current trend is for states to tie the licensing of online casinos to physical casinos that are located in the state. This is likely the way that California will proceed with legalization. First in line for licensing would be the tribal casinos that already provide live gaming in California.
