It is hard to believe that there is a state that has had online poker long enough to be able to be celebrating five years of the game. That is in the case in Delaware.
Delaware is a small state and the amount of tax revenue that the state brings in via legal online poker is rather small. Delaware still believes that it is something special given how early they legalized online poker compared to all of these other states that are just now getting around to it.
Currently there are only four states that have legal online poker available to residents within their borders. Delaware, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and New Jersey are currently all on board with legal online poker. West Virginia and some other states are considering adding legal online poker to their legislative agendas as well. For the time being though just those four states have it. They have banded together to share their player pools in order to provide a great amount of capital to go around.
States combining their player pools means that everyone can benefit. There are more players which equates to more tournaments, more cash in cash games, and a lot more fun in general. Delaware is celebrating the fact that they are able to count on this as a source of revenue for them year in and year out. People really don't fully appreciate just how important that is to the functioning of the government.
There are people playing online poker in every state in America as we speak. Most of them are not doing so legally or in a regulated environment. However, those dollars are getting traded around either way. Delaware is one of the lucky few that has decided that they would take advantage of the money that is floating around. They have not looked back since they legalized online poker back in 2013.
Congratulations to Delaware and much luck to other states that are attempting to get in on the game as we speak now. It is something that has been due for a long time and it would be nice to add to the player pools once again.
