US states of Nevada and Delaware, which signed last month an interstate compact agreement to share their Internet poker liquidity, might be able to merge their liquidities sooner than initially planned.
When they signed the agreement, both counterparts estimated that it could become effective at the end of the year but it might occur as early as this summer according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. Other US states are welcome to joint the Multi-State Internet Wager Agreement but only New Jersey could legally accept the offer at this time. Discussions have taken place with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie but the Garden State has not said yes for the moment. Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has also brought up the topic to other states looking at regulating online gambling.
Nevada, the only state of the three offering only poker and not online casino gaming, has no intention of expanding into other Internet gambling options. Sandoval said that “poker-only works well” for the Silver State, assuring that brick and mortar gambling revenue won’t be affected by the limited gaming available online. According to PokerScout, Nevada’s online poker scheme averages below 200 cash players, while Delaware reaches a peak of a few dozen online players on good days.
