Largest Jackpot in California Powerball Lottery

April 7, 2014

February the 19th was a magic day for the golden state, California. The holder of a 425 million of dollars Powerball winning ticket came forward to claim his prize after a period of silence. The winner, B. Raymond Buxton, from the Northern area of California, Milpitas, could not believe that he had won $425M, the largest jackpot for the state of California and the sixth largest one ever in the United States. February's CA Powerball jackpot has been one of the biggest in the history of this country's lottery; Powerball is one of the most exciting lottery programs in the world as it is frequently giving away large amounts of money on prizes, changing the lives of many Californians. In this case, the winner, B. Raymond Buxton, decided not to claim the prize due to the importance of the winning ticket; so he waited until he finally came out with a financial plan to be able to make a proper use of the prize, something that he has accomplished from professional financial advisers to set up a charity. This has been all over the news during the month of April as the winner decided to come forward on April 1st, April fool's day, like if that was another prank from the media for this popular day. However, Buxton's idea was to stay out of the public interest so he never mentioned a word, in particular, to the media. Not even now that we know his identity, he is not willing to reveal any more information like his age or address as he wants to stay away from the public exposure.

In spite of all this secrecy, the winner received 242 million of dollars, amount before taxes, from the $2 Quick Pick ticket he purchased at a Subway restaurant located inside of a Chevron gas station and rest area. On his own words: " - Unbelievable! - is all I could muster. Once the initial shock passed, I could not sleep for days. Sitting on a ticket of this value was very scary. It is amazing how a little slip of paper can change your life. I am going to enjoy my new job setting up a charitable foundation focused on the areas of pediatric health, child hunger and education". Buxton's publicist, Sam Singer, said: "One of the reasons why Buxton came forward on April 1 — April fool’s Day — is simply that he has a healthy sense of humor. He still cannot believe it is not a prank on him. But the reality is Ray Buxton is the winner. He really wants to live a private life as best he can. He was a solidly middle-class American, and today he is a solidly wealthy one."
