One of the major sports bets operator from Europe, Bwin Party Digital Entertainment, is not having a great success in the US market. The company based in the British colony in Spain, Gibraltar, has been one of the most relevant betting operators in the Old Continent; its role as sponsor of some of the biggest European soccer teams is another of the biggest achievements, reaching every single one of the sport areas. The online European markets are struggling because of the severe gambling regulations imposed by the greedy European governments that strangle some gaming markets, such as Spain’s and Portugal, while at the same time still allows the continuation of tax havens. A few gaming operators have tried to enter the US market, even when it is only regulated in a few of the US states. However, this choice seems to be much more productive for Europeans operators than losing money back at home.
The US market has fallen for tricks like the new products that operators and other social gaming companies are trying to sell us. This has been the main case for the betting operator. Bwin Party Digital Entertainment, one of the biggest betting operators ever, is getting rid of its social gaming business. Social gaming had a big effect on the online gaming industry; these games became even more important than any other casino game; but that was another of the trendy movements from this generation. The year 2011 was the one for social casino games but only for two or three operators. Bwin Party has not been the lucky one with the social games deal as the company has lost $8.5 million in 2014: “We are in active discussions regarding the sale of Win, the group’s social gaming business and expect to make a further announcement shortly. The group is continuing its discussions with several parties regarding a variety of potential business combinations with a view to creating additional value for Bwin Party.”
