Two of the biggest casinos in Connecticut, both under the ownership of Native American tribes, are ready for online gambling. The online gambling industry is opening the market in several of the US states -Delaware, New Jersey and Nevada- at a slow pace as it has to fight the opposition from groups and land-based casinos. Connecticut is on the same road as many of the other US states that are still struggling to get into the online gambling industry. Following the federal government, the states are considering this very lucrative market. Connecticut's Governor, Dannel P. Malloy, and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, are however not in the mood of boosting the economy in the state but both casinos, Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun, are pushing the boundaries. So far, both casinos resorts are taking advantage of the online channel to get to their customers; the online casino site is providing the company with a great deal of information about customers. At the same time, players can enjoy online most of the land-based casino games but they are not allowed to wage any money. The resorts are running the online casino sites as a marketing channel to get their promotions out and, the players receive great prizes like reward points for merchandise and even hotel stays at the resort. Rodney Butler, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Native American Tribe that owns Foxwoods Resort Casino, stated: "What we're finding is that it's actually a useful tool for building a database, getting our brand out there and connecting people to the property". Chuck Bunnell, Mohegan Tribe's spokesperson, shares the same feeling with his rival Rodney Butler: "If indeed the government wants to regulate it and offer it to appropriate people, we are ready and able to do that".
Both casinos teamed up with very important gaming firms. Foxwoods entered into a partnership with Game Account Network while Mohegan Sun did the same with Bally Technologies for its online poker room last year. That is why both casinos have been able to reply to every single one of the concerns on security and age verification that the National Council on Problem Gambling has alleged.
