Virginia Legislature Looks to Advance Online Casino Gambling Bills

February 2, 2026

With the Virginia state legislature officially open for 2026, online casino gambling was one of the topics of discussion. It's noteworthy that talks to legalize online gambling in the past years have essentially fallen on deaf ears. Maybe 2026 will be different.

Several bills were introduced in a Senate subcommittee over the past few weeks. One such iGaming bill was HB 118, sponsored by Senator Mamie Locke. It's similar to the bill she introduced last year. While it isn't getting as much attention as she would want, it is being discussed at a superficial level. The same can be said of SB 195 & SB 558. In committee, both of those bills were combined to create the framework for the Virginia Gaming Commission.

It's noteworthy that the House passed HB 515, which put a ban on using credit cards to fund sports betting activities.
