Imagine for a moment that you woke up and someone was standing at your door offering you $1,000 a day for the rest of your life. You must admit that would be a life changing experience. Well, the equivalent has happened to one lucky lottery player in Michigan.
While the name is still unknown at this time, the winning ticker for this dream come true was purchased online at MichiganLottery.com. The drawing was held on February 11, 2021. To win the $1,000 a day for life, the lucky winner had to match five white balls and the Lucky ball. When the numbers 07-09-15-31-39 LB: 01 came up, the first "Lucky for Life" game winner in Michigan lottery history was crowned.
When the winner steps forward to claim their prize, they will have a decision to make. Their choices are as follows:
1. Take Annual payments of $365,000 over a minimum of 20 years or over the rest of their life, whichever is greater
2. Take a one time cash payment of $5.75 million.
Before anyone gets too excited, it's noteworthy that these are pretax amounts. After the IRS and the state take their cuts, the amount of the prize will be about 40% shorter. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with receiving $600 a day for life.
Lest they be forgotten, there was another big winner from the same drawing. This ticket was actually purchased through a retail outlet at Harding’s Friendly Market, which is located at 533 Allegan Street in Plainwell, Michigan. This winning ticket managed to hit the first five numbers but missed out on Lucky Ball.
For their efforts, this lucky winner will also have to make a decision based on the following two choices:
1. Accept annual payments of $25,000 for a minimum of 20 years or the rest of their life, whichever is greater
2. Take a one-time lump sum cash payment of $390,000
Again, income taxes will be owed by the winner.
Should anyone out there have the winning ticket, they should contact the Michigan Lottery Public Relations Division at (517) 373-1237.
