Times are changing in America. Nowhere is that more evident than in a population that is decided more Hispanic/Latino than it was in years gone by. What's noticeable about this population change is the increase in the population of said minorities in states like Pennsylvania.
As the population changes, businesses are having to adapt to remain competitive. That includes businesses that are operating within the online casino gambling industry. That might well be why Evolution Gaming began developing its live casino/dealer content in Spanish.
Effective August 15, 2024, online casino operators that use Evolution Gaming's live casino content in PA began broadcasting Spanish-language blackjack games. This follows a 5-month trial that was run in New Jersey without a glitch. It's noteworthy that this is the first time any online casino software developer has stepped forward to create content exclusively for Spanish-speaking customers.
To date, the content has been limited to a live online casino game titled “VIP Blackjack en Español.” Given the success of this game in New Jersey, Evolution is currently working on a Spanish version of its game titled "Infinite Blackjack." The company expects to release this game in New Jersey sometime in the mid to late fall.
According to Heather Fletcher of Bonus.com, it looks like the Connecticut online casino market is Evolution's next target. That's another state where the Hispanic/Latino population has been on the rise. She further noted that the company has not yet expressed its desire to offer its Spanish-speaking content in the other states where Evolution's content is available. That would include Delaware, Michigan, and West Virginia.
According to the December 2022 census report, THe U.S. Census Bureau estimated that 68 million people in the U.S. considered Spanish their "first language." With the migration of undocumented migrants in the last few years, that number has risen substantially by as much as 10 million people. That's a lot of Spanish-speaking people who might enjoy playing online casino games of chance. In New Jersey, 17% of the people polled said they speak Spanish in their homes. That key number is 6% in Pennsylvania and 13% in Connecticut.
Recognizing this shift in the population, management at Evolution Gaming felt that language preference might be a barrier to Hispanics and Latinos using online casino gambling sites. By removing this barrier, it is reasonable to assume that participation and revenue should rise.
This new Spanish-speaking live casino content should be available on every online casino site partnered with Evolution. That includes major operators like BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook and Casino, DraftKings, and Fanduel.
While the gaming selection is currently limited to blackjack, success could inspire Evolution's content developers to focus on other popular online casino games like live dealer versions of baccarat, roulette, craps, and Casino Hold'em.
It is worth noting that European online casino enthusiasts have had access to Evolution game language options for close to two decades. The efforts being made in the States are the company playing a bit of catch-up.
