The online casino gaming’s market is probably one of the industries with the highest number of enemies. On one side, the brick and mortar casino moguls are doing any possible thing they can to ban the online gaming industry once and for all. On the other side, we just found out that the same Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has said nothing in favor of legalizing and regulating the online casino gaming industry. The group has publicly come out several times stating the need for the nation to create legislation for the online poker industry but never said that this legislation would include the online casino gambling market. This is another episode of the endless battle between politicians, casino moguls and gamblers; the year 2012 was the time when the battle commenced when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Democratic for Nevada) and formerly Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (Republican for Arizona), both went ahead with the federal ban to eradicate online gambling but leaving online poker out of the ban. The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) fully backed up the ban to online casino gambling industry at the same time that legislating and regulating the US online poker market. The PPA’s position had not changed until a controversial article from Poker News came out stating that PPA is going to go for the veto that bans any online gambling activity from casinos, but not from online poker rooms: "The Poker Players Alliance will be fighting to stop any legislation to prohibit online gambling from passing in the lame-duck session of Congress, even if it contains a carve out for poker."
These statements have been reason enough for John Pappas, the Executive Director of the Poker Players Alliance, to explain the poker group’s attitude towards the online gambling industry: "The PPA is going to stand with supporting poker over other forms of gambling. If there was a bill that banned online casino games, but legalized online poker at the federal level, we would support that all day long. I think the way the industry is developing our best-case scenario is for Congress to do nothing during the lame duck. There's certainly opportunity for some shenanigans to happen, and everyone in the gaming industry should be keeping a close watch on what Congress may do."
