Native Californian tribes considering online poker

May 26, 2014

California's Native American tribes have been in opposition to online poker immediately after the online gambling marker opened in the US states of Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey, also known as the best US states in the country where to find boulevards filled with casinos. The online gambling market started strongly the first months of operation in all of these states although they had to fight the blockade from the main land based casinos, like Sheldon Adelson's. This personage put all his effort to fight the online gambling industry so that, he and others can continue building their monopoly bigger and bigger every year. Sheldon's coalition against online gambling was not alone as many other groups also joined this twaddle.

The Native American tribes from California were another of those groups that only saw their own profit; banning the online gambling industry came only from the idea of all these land based casino owners losing money. As in many other parts of the world, the land-based casinos are usually the main organizers for the poker events that move thousands of players all around the world; but it seems that the Native American tribes of California have reached a consensus. The Pechanga and San Manuel tribes have been working together on an arrangement to allow online poker. Every online poker room would receive just one only license that can be used for two websites with the intent of limiting the number of online poker rooms.

Some are not that optimistic as this has not come out to the public. The North American Research Director at Gambling Compliance, Chris Krafcik, is one of them: "The Morongo tribe along with the Bicycle Casino, Commerce Casino and Hawaiian Gardens Casino all have formed a partnership with Poker Stars to supply online poker services in the state. The current bad actor language in California bills would effectively prevent Poker Stars from operating a site". Victor Rocha, The Pechanga editor replied: "Whether or not online poker is passed this session or not is up for debate, but one cannot deny that today’s news is huge for the industry. The largest hurdle thus far has been the Tribes and with major coalitions in the state now in agreement, energy can now be focused on resolving the Morongo issue. My personal feelings on Poker Stars in California is that it will happen sometime in the future. A compromise will likely be made with the Morongo that will see Poker Stars allowed in after serving a penalty of some type. While it may be some type of time penalty, do not be surprised to see some type of “bad actor” fee be instituted. Another alternative could be to limit Poker Stars ability or their license for the first few years".
