Hawaii has long been considered one of the U.S. states that might never offer access to any kind of casino gambling. However, there are rumblings that one community, Kapolei, Hawaii, located on the island of O’ahu, is considering moving forward with approval for the Hawaiian islands' first casino.
Before anyone starts getting excited, this news comes after a simple proposal was passed by a vote of 5 to 4 by the Hawaiian Homes Commission. Also, all forms of gambling are currently illegal in the state. Before any casino project could move forward, the state legislature would have to pass legislation that would establish some form of legalization pertaining to casino gambling.
Many gambling industry officials believe the legalization of casino gambling in Hawaii could have a significant impact on the tourist industry in Las Vegas. It would certainly interrupt the flow of traffic from the islands to the "City of Lights."
There is no way to predict how this will turn out. However, this is big news considering the state's position on gambling in the past.
