The US gambling states are trying to reduce the traffic of unlicensed gambling sites by creating framework for one of the most conflictive markets, the online gambling industry. Nevada has introduced a new amendment to prevent the existence of sites with no license issued by the Nevada gaming regulator. The ban will take legal actions on unlicensed gambling sites as well as any affiliate to the site and gamblers; Nevada’s bill brings a new meaning to the concept ‘illegal activity’; with the new notion, any affiliate is profiting from illegal wagers services, and therefore it will be considered illegal. Affiliates are actually the only ones left bringing new clients to online sites every day, and the Nevada gambling regulator will be prosecuting these individuals as well.
The Nevada bill to ban affiliates from profiting from unlicensed gambling sites came at the same time that the new online poker bill from California. California and Nevada seem to be working together as both bills were introduced practically at the same time. The US gambling states need to get together to coordinate their efforts against unlicensed online gambling sites, affiliates and players. The Nevada bill is trying to redirect affiliates from unlicensed to licensed gambling sites. The Nevada amendment also includes any reward, compensation, percentage, or share, played directly or indirectly, a bill that will be applied to every single player, operator, and affiliate in Nevada. Poker tournaments could be affected by this new amendment, as it will have to be applied to high roller events and tournaments where players’ buy-in comes from investors, in exchange for a share of the prize. With Nevada’s bill, these investors/backers earnings will be considered illegal. The WSOP has been the first one to assure that this will affect tournaments entries because players cannot afford the high risk of losing all their money.
