Two of the biggest gambling operators in the world, poker room PokerStars and casino-resorts’ firm Caesars Entertainment Corp, are joining forces against the US federal government. The two operators do not think that they will win the battle for the decriminalization of online poker activities within the borders of the country. Despite the fact that the two operators are well known in the gaming industry for their continue fight to dominate the market, this one does seem to be the time to fight against a common enemy, the US federal law. PokerStars and Caesars are going to work together and, for sure, they will take their motto, US online poker legalization, to the federal Supreme Court. Amaya Gaming Group, leading firm in the gaming industry, got its hands on PokerStars last year and started the dialogue with Caesars to work together. Casino gaming firm Caesars and gambling services supplier Amaya have created one of the strongest forces during the last year, fighting for the regulation of the gambling market, in particular, the online gaming industry.
No other US state rather than Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey, allows online poker. The main goal for both gaming operators, Caesars’ and Amaya, is, of course, the Golden State of California. Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Washington, are in all probability part of the strategy to legalize online poker in a federal level. Even though both firms seem to be working together, the differences between them have also arisen. The casino gaming firm is one of the main members of the American Gaming Association (AGA), group that made a very strong statement about PokerStars back in 2013: “The integrity of the gaming industry would be gravely compromised by any regulatory approval of PokerStars, a business built on deceit, chicanery, and systematic flouting of US law”. Jan Jones Blackhurst, Caesars’s Executive Vice President recently stated a different point of view: “We need to focus on where our opposition really lies, and clearly it’s not Amaya and Poker Stars. They are a strong ally in the space.”
