Within the U.S. online gambling industry, it would be hard to not notice just how aggressive DraftKings has become. While already standing as one of the two largest providers of fantasy sports, the company has made significant inroads into becoming the largest online bookmaker in the country. The only thing that was missing was an associated online casino.
Back in May, DraftKings began offering an online casino option that the company had integrated with its online sportsbook product. As if that wasn't evidence enough the company intends on being the biggest player in the overall U.S. online gambling industry, now comes news that DraftKings has launched its online casino product as a stand alone mobile app.
The recent rollout of this new app first took place in Pennsylvania. After a successful rollout, the company more recently moved to rollout the same mobile casino platform in the fine state of West Virginia. These two rollouts represent DraftKings movement within two of the four states that currently allow legalized online casino gambling with Delaware and New Jersey being the other two.
For now, DraftKings' mobile online casino platform in Pennsylvania consists of 29 popular video slot titles and 16 table games. Among the table games, players will get access to multiple variations of blackjack and roulette along with baccarat and several other popular table game options. In the very near future, there is a good chance the company will add a live dealer component.
In West Virginia, online slots are not yet part of the package. While the number of gaming options might seem somewhat limited, it's just a start. It's the first stand alone online casino mobile app in West Virginia.
In other news that will impact DraftKings' aspirations in the U.S. online gambling market, the state of Louisiana signaled its time for Louisiana sports enthusiast to get access to daily fantasy sports. The news comes on the heels of Gov. John Bel Edwards signing a bill that effectively establishes the state's tax rate for DFS. It's worth noting that the news comes out more than two years after voters said yes to allowing said activities for the state's residents.
At this point, companies like DraftKings hope to be in position to offer Louisiana residents to start wagering on fantasy sports by the start on the NFL season in September. If all goes well, this could serve as the precursor for the legalization of sports betting in the Pelican state.
