Wynn Las Vegas Launches Sportsbook App with Miomni Gaming

Wynn Las Vegas has announced it will be releasing a new mobile sportsbook app, making it the most recent in a growing list of casinos who are offering wagers online. The app will unfortunately miss the Super Bowl on February 7, but is expected to be released later in the month, in time for March Madness.

“We’ll offer everything that we offer in the book, including horse racing futures,” says Wynn’s sports booking head, John Avello. “It’s pretty much the sportsbook in your pocket.”

The application has been in development with the mobile tech company Miomni Gaming for two years. Miomni has also developed similar apps for Atlantis, Aliante, and Treasure Island, with an MGM app in the works.

Sports betting applications are expected to be huge for millennials. The appeal is obvious: placing bets in person is far more time consuming than doing so with a flick of the touch screen. Visiting a sportsbook in person can be terribly time consuming, especially when the bettor must navigate traffic, parking, and lines.

Over the past four years, the Nevadan booking market saw mobile sportsbook usage grow from 13 percent to 29 percent. According to Ellers & Krejcik Gaming, that number could reach as high as 50 percent by the year of 2020.

With this app, Wynn aims to service more than just native Nevadans, but to also integrate the convenience of mobile sports booking into the rest its luxury casino experience. Avello sees it as “not only a vehicle for the people that live in the state of Nevada, but for our house guests, who don’t have to come to the sportsbook if they’re at the pool or the club… we think it will be good for both those types of users.”

The launch follows up Wynn’s December opening of the Encore Players Club, which also aims to service millennials. According to Sean Christie, the Wynn Las Vegas Vice President of Operations: “Gaming environments have basically been formulaic on the Strip for decades. Wynn Las Vegas will be the first to offer a new experience in gaming and entertainment on the casino floor by creating a distinctive social space to gamble with friends, watch the game or hang out before hitting the club.” Encore will also feature a live DJ, plasma screen TVs, and free to play games.
