For more than a decade, Pennsylvania has served as a leader within the U.S. iGaming community. With more than two dozen online casinos in operation, the state ranks second to New Jersey in terms of online casino gaming gross revenue.
A big contributor to the success of online gambling in PA has been Penn Entertainment. It is with great pride that the company’s Chief Executive Officer Jay Snowden recently announced the launch of the Hollywood Casino app.
It's a real coup that the launch took place ahead of schedule. It was only a month or two ago that Snowden told the press he expected the new app to see its release in the early part of 2025. Much of the credit for the early launch goes to Aaron LaBerge, chief technology officer at PENN Entertainment. Proud of this accomplishment, LaBerge told the press in a press release:
"We’re excited to launch Hollywood Casino as a stand-alone app in Pennsylvania, giving our customers access to their favorite games in a dedicated, casino-first experience."
After the success of this launch, Penn Entertainment will be looking to launch the Hollywood Casino app in other states in the coming year.
LaBerge was quick to mention that this is the 4th licensed Penn Entertainment casino in PA. In conjunction with the company's retail casino brand, it's clear that the company is a force to be reckoned with in the future. Note: With average annual revenue coming in at over $6 billion each year, Penn Ent certainly has a war chest with which to make noise across the country.
The Hollywood Casino app is being powered by Penn Entertainment's proprietary software platform. This includes the integration of games from software developers from all over the planet.
Currently, the Hollywood Casino app features:
Note: Despite the big news, Penn Entertainment's stock dropped by 26.36% year-to-date, an indication of the inherent risks in today's market environment.
New customers at Hollywood Casino will appreciate the fact the app is seamlessly integrated with Penn's PennPlay Rewards program. The app is also included as part of the ESPN BET sports betting app.
It's clear that Penn Entertainment has been positioning itself as a major player within the U.S. gambling industry at both the retail and digital levels. According to industry insiders, this has made Penn an attractive target for acquisition. Rumors abound that Boyd Gaming is looking hard at a take-over bid. There are also indications that Flutter might be interested in partnering with Boyd to secure Penn's digital asset portfolio. With both of these major industry players lurking in the wings, it will be interesting to see what happens in the Penn Entertainment realm in the coming year.
