The "Road to the Kentucky Derby Showdown" contest gives TwinSpires.com players the chance to win a 1,000,000 dollar jackpot, as well as prize shares of 10,000 dollars, Kentucky Derby tickets and Kentucky Derby merchandise. To participate in the competition, players must place a designated contest wager on the official contest races. A designated wager is a competitor’s initial $20 Show wager on a single horse or entry on a contest race.

Two different rounds of play are available in the "Road to the Kentucky Derby Showdown" contest: Prep Round Play and Final Round Play. In Prep Round Play, players have the opportunity to win Kentucky Derby and Oaks Tickets and Kentucky Derby merchandise. There are 19 official races, and the playing begins of February 8th and continues until April 19th. The first place prize for Prep Round Play is a pair of tickets to the 2015 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks. Final Round Play offers players who have placed at least one winning wager in Prep Round Play an chance to compete for one or more prize shares of 10,000 dollars in cash. Competitors can earn up to 18 shares of the 10,000 dollar prize.

Players who have finished Prep Round Play with 19 winning wagers and have placed a winning contest wager in Final Round Play will be qualified to win the 1,000,000 dollar jackpot.
