Wyoming Online Poker

When Gov. Mark Gordon inked his signature on HB133 in April of 2021, Wyoming became the first state to legalize sports betting in 2021. Based on provisions in the law, sports betting in Wyoming will be confined to online sports betting.

As prescribed by law, the state will issue sports betting licenses to at least five U.S. sports betting operators. The operators will be regulated by the Wyoming Gaming Commission.

When the sports betting legislation was passed, the Wyoming Gaming Commission wanted to see online sports betting go live by the start of the NFL season. That is in fact exactly what happened as DraftKings officially accepted the first online sports bet on September 1, 2021. That must of been frustrating for BetMGM when that bookmaker ended up going live about two hours later.

These are the first two online bookmakers to be approved by the Wyoming Gaming Commission. In the very near future, Fanduel will also be joining the fray. With just under 600,000 residents in the state, the battle for customers will be furious. With five or more operators taking bets, it's very likely that one or more of them will get aggressive with their bonus promotions. Of course, that will be to the benefit of Wyoming sports bettors.
